What is Emotional Intelligence?
Emotional Intelligence (often called ‘EQ’ or ‘EI’) is your ability to understand and manage your own emotions, as well as the ability to understand and influence the emotions of those around you. It’s about being ‘street smart’ with your feelings and ‘people smart’ in your relationships.
For example, when you feel stressed before an exam, using your emotional intelligence helps you manage that worry so you can focus. When a friend is upset, it helps you understand why they’re feeling that way and how to support them. Having strong emotional intelligence helps you navigate social situations, handle tough conversations, and build a more confident and resilient version of yourself.
Developing Empathy and Improving Your Emotional Intelligence
A common misconception is that emotional intelligence is a fixed trait, but it’s a skill you can develop. As Daniel Goleman, a leading expert on the topic, once noted, “emotional intelligence is the sine qua non of leadership”—meaning it’s the absolutely essential ingredient for success. This isn’t just about becoming a leader in the future; it’s about leading your own life today.
Being emotionally intelligent means you can handle life’s ups and downs with greater resilience. It helps you work better in a team, manage stress, and succeed in school and in life. The good news is that just like any other skill, you can learn and improve your emotional intelligence with practice.

Give Your Child the Power of Emotional Intelligence
In today’s world, being smart with your emotions is just as important as being smart with your head. Strong emotional intelligence is the key to building resilience, succeeding academically, and forming lasting friendships. As a parent, you want to give your child every advantage, and helping them master the art of emotional intelligence is one of the most powerful things you can do.
Why This Course Is Right for Your Child
Our comprehensive training programme is designed to help young people systematically develop their emotional intelligence. Through engaging, hands-on activities, your child will learn to understand their own emotions, manage them effectively, and connect with others on a deeper level. This isn’t just about feeling better; it’s about giving them the tools they need to navigate social situations, manage stress, and build strong relationships.
COURSE CONTENT
This highly practical and engaging course is designed to help your child not only learn the following skills but also build the confidence to use them in their everyday life.
Understanding Your Emotions
This section is all about getting to know your feelings. Your child will discover what emotions are, why we have them, and how their brain processes them. They’ll learn to spot what’s known as “Emotional Hijacking,” where strong feelings take over, and find out how to regain control, so they can react thoughtfully rather than impulsively.
Managing Your Feelings
Once your child understands their emotions, this part of the course teaches them how to manage them. They’ll learn practical techniques for taking advantage of optimism and for handling difficult feelings like anger and worry. This is a crucial step towards becoming more resilient and able to face life’s challenges calmly.
Finding Your Motivation
This module helps your child discover what truly motivates them. They will learn how to set goals and stay energised, so they can avoid apathy and remain creative and proactive in school projects and hobbies. This skill is vital for building a can-do attitude that will serve them for life.
Connecting with Others: The Art of Empathy
Empathy is a superpower for building great friendships and relationships. Your child will learn how to genuinely connect with others by understanding their feelings and perspective. We’ll teach them simple, effective ways to have empathetic conversations that build trust and deepen connections.
Reading the Room: Social Smarts
This section focuses on how to interact successfully in groups. Your child will learn how to listen positively, spot “negative listening types” (the ways people block communication), and develop a higher level of social awareness. By mastering these skills, they’ll become a more effective team member and a better friend.
Building Strong Relationships
This final module is about putting it all together. Your child will learn about the six key “human needs” that drive people, and how to recognise those needs in others. By understanding what motivates people, they will be able to build and maintain strong, lasting relationships, whether in a school project or on the sports field.
