What are Problem-Solving Skills?
Problem-solving skills are the abilities we use to identify challenges, think creatively, and find effective solutions. We all face problems every day, from figuring out a tricky maths question to sorting out a disagreement with a friend. It’s the skill that drives all progress, because it’s what allows us to look for better ways of doing things.
As Albert Einstein said, “It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.” Having strong problem-solving skills helps you feel more confident, less stressed, and better able to handle any situation that comes your way, whether it’s on your own or with a group.
Work Smarter, Not Harder
In today’s world, problems are more complex than ever before, and we often need to solve them as a group. This course is designed to teach you powerful, proven techniques to work with others, boost your creativity, and find solutions you might never have thought of on your own. COURSE CONTENT
This course is highly practical and engaging. Through hands-on exercises, your child will not only learn the following skills but also build the confidence to use them in their everyday life.
Understanding Problem Solving
This section is all about getting to the core of problem-solving. Your child will discover the common reasons people fail to solve problems and learn the right mindset to approach any challenge. We’ll also teach them the ideal roles in a productive meeting and introduce them to the techniques that will make them better at solving problems.
Defining the Problem
Before you can find a solution, you need to understand the problem. This module teaches your child how to systematically explore a problem and find its root causes. They will learn a powerful visual technique that helps them see a problem from all angles, so they can get to the heart of what’s really going on.
Generating New Ideas
This part of the course focuses on thinking creatively as a group. Your child will learn how to generate lots of ideas and organise them methodically. We’ll show them how to avoid shooting down new ideas and how to get a group to cooperate, so they can find novel solutions together rather than competing against each other.
Better Brainstorming
This section is all about improving your brainstorming sessions. Your child will learn what makes a good question and what makes a bad one, and how to use both to get the best ideas. We’ll also introduce them to some of the most commonly used brainstorming techniques, so they can make their group meetings more productive.
Making a Decision
Once a group has lots of ideas, this module teaches your child how to choose the best one. They’ll learn a number of powerful decision-making techniques that will help them look at a problem from many different angles. This provides a clear system for making a confident choice.
Planning for Action
This final section is about turning a great idea into a plan. Your child will learn how to use professional tools like a Work Breakdown Structure and Gantt charts to create a solid plan. We’ll teach them how to prioritise what really matters so they can focus on the most important parts of their plan and succeed.
