What are Leadership Skills?
Leadership skills are the abilities we use to inspire and guide a team towards a common goal. A leader is someone who can create a vision and motivate others to help make it a reality. You don’t have to be a manager or be in charge to be a leader; you just need to be able to inspire and influence those around you.
As the famous leader Max DePree said, “The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality. The last is to say thank you.” In between, a leader is a ‘servant’ to their team. This course will show you what it takes to become an effective leader, whether you’re leading a school project, a sports team, or a club.
Is Leadership a Natural Talent or a Learned Skill?
This is a question many people ask. The truth is, while some people have a natural knack for it, leadership is a skill that can be learned and developed. Successful leaders acquire a set of skills and behaviours that set them apart. They inspire and motivate others by being good communicators, brilliant planners, and, most importantly, great with people. COURSE CONTENT
This course is highly practical and engaging. Through hands-on exercises, your child will not only learn the following skills but also build the confidence to use them in their everyday life.
Goal-Orientated Thinking
Your child will learn to identify different communication styles and understand their own. They’ll discover what makes communication effective and how their personal style impacts how others see them. This section is all about teaching them to be more aware and intentional with their words.
This section is all about the importance of having a clear purpose. Your child will learn how to define goals and objectives so that everyone on a team knows what they are working towards. We’ll show them how to create a clear strategy to prevent the team from getting distracted by unimportant details and to help them stay focused on the main objective.
Influence and Communication
This module is all about the power of influence and how to be at the centre of a network. Your child will learn how to interact with different people to identify needs and recognise opportunities. They will also learn how to motivate people effectively by understanding their vision, and how to use the right questions to get to the bottom of problems and encourage efficient problem-solving.
Leadership Styles
This part of the course teaches your child that there isn’t just one way to lead. They’ll discover different styles of leadership and learn which style to use in different situations and with different people. This pragmatic approach will allow them to be flexible and adapt to different environments, especially in times of crisis.
Delegation
This section teaches your child the rules of effective delegation. They will learn that delegating tasks not only gives a leader more time to deal with more important issues, but it also increases a team’s confidence in their own abilities. This is a crucial skill for any successful leader.
Creative Thinking
This module is all about inspiring creativity in a team. Your child will learn how to brainstorm, encourage people to contribute their ideas, and capture new information. This skill helps a leader become a better problem-solver who can help others overcome setbacks and problems.
Risk and Opportunity Management
This final section teaches your child how to be prepared for the unexpected. They will learn to identify risks early to deal with them effectively and how to recognise opportunities on time, so they can take full advantage of situations successfully.
Action Plan
At the end of this course, your child will create a personal action plan which will improve their leadership skills and guide their journey long after the training is complete.
